Open Apple Crumble

When you are working towards living a healthier lifestyle, it’s the small changes that you make that will add up to a big difference, over time. One simple change to make is ensuring that you always have healthy snack ideas ready to go to when you are feeling hungry.

In fall and winter, I love to indulge in comforting foods, especially sweet foods. This recipe ticks all the boxes — it’s naturally sweet, comforting, and you can eat it warm as a mid-morning or afternoon snack.

With no processed sugar, it’s also incredibly healthy. Save this recipe to make when you need a pick-me-up, or increase the number of apples to serve this as a healthy supper or dessert for your family.

Open Apple Crumble Recipe

This recipe can be made in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients

1 medium apple

Ground cinnamon to taste

Pure maple syrup to taste

2 oz (50g) Greek yoghurt or non-dairy yoghurt

1 oz (30g) of muesli

Walnuts to garnish (optional)

Method:

  1. Heat a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the apple, cinnamon, maple syrup and 2 tbsp water and cook, covered, for 5 minutes or until the apples are soft.
  2. To serve, place the stewed apple in a serving bowl and top with the yoghurt and muesli. Enjoy!

If you don’t happen to have apples, you can substitute pears instead for a different flavour, or used tinned fruit.

Healthy snacks can help to improve how you feel.

When I began my own fitness journey, one of the first changes I made was to switch out soda for water — that’s right, there was a time where I only drank soda.

I can tell you that this one change made a difference to how I felt. Being properly hydrated meant that I had more energy! When I noticed this, it inspired me to make other changes, and over time I began to turn my health around.

The benefits of making healthy choices are enormous — it’s not just about your physical body. When you commit to caring for your health, you start to discover your own inner power.

You can change your life — one small step at a time. You don’t need a complicated nutrition plan, access to a gym or a lot of equipment. You can start right now, right where you are, with what you have.
