How To Practice Self-Care Every Day

How To Practice Self-Care Every Day
How To Practice Self-Care Every Day

More than ever, our lives are busy and demanding. More often than not, we are stressed and on the go all the time. These factors make caring for ourselves and self-care even more IMPORTANT.

Why is self-care important?

Sometimes, self-care can seem like a luxury, but in reality, it is a necessity. I understand you may be short on time and even might feel guilty for taking time for yourself. But self-care is not selfish. You should NEVER feel guilty for taking care of yourself and prioritizing your health.

While sometimes it can seem you have too little time to practice self-care, please realize it doesn’t have to be a time-consuming thing. There are many small ways to incorporate self-care throughout your day. These little acts of self-care day after day can really contribute to prosperous health — physical and mental!

Self-care is nourishing for your soul. It aids your health and wellbeing, and you CAN’T put a price on that.

How to incorporate self-care into your day

Incorporating self-care practices into your daily life is key to optimizing your health and wellbeing. You can only be the best version of yourself to those around you when you are taking care of yourself.

It’s important to remember that your version of self-care might look completely different to those around you, and that’s OK. What matters is that you are making a consistent effort to prioritize self-care.

For some, it might be a good idea to schedule self-care ahead of time. This will give you a better chance of sticking to it! Although schedules can be busy, treat this time as an important meeting with yourself and respect it as you would an important meeting with anyone else.

Here are some easy ways you can incorporate self-care into your day!

Practice gratitude

Practicing gratitude helps put things in perspective and can help reduce feelings of stress or anxiety. In turn, it can make you feel more OPTIMISTIC and HAPPY.

It can take as long (or as little) as you like and doesn’t cost a thing.

A lot of people like to practice gratitude at the beginning of the day and set an intention for the day ahead; other people practice at the end of the day and reflect on the day that was.

My favorite way to practice gratitude is to keep a gratitude journal. Each night before I go to sleep, I take a moment and write down three things I’m thankful for.

Eat nourishing food

This one might surprise you, however many of our daily tasks can be great vehicles for self-care when we are mindful about them. When you eat a nourishing meal, you FUEL your body and you FEEL amazing. And you can bet that’s an act of self-care!

A nourishing meal doesn’t need to be hard or complex to make, it simply needs to be healthy and delicious. While preparing and eating your food, take a moment to be present and mindful that fuelling your body with the nutrients it needs is showing your body love.

I’m not a person who enjoys spending a lot of time in my kitchen, so my go-to recipes tend to be simple, tasty and quick to make!

Let’s be honest, you already eat during the day, so making a healthy and nourishing meal mindfully is one of the easiest ways to incorporate self-care into your day!

Taking Care

Break a sweat

You guessed it: working out and breaking a sweat is ABSOLUTELY a form of self-care! Mental and emotional benefits aside, exercise is paramount for taking care of our physical health.

When you work out, you move your body, get your heart rate up, and release endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals produced by the body to relieve stress and pain, and trigger a positive feeling in your body.

Whether you smash out a PWR workout or do a low-intensity cardio activity, exercising in any shape or form is an act of self-care!

Make sleep a priority

Quality sleep is essential to SO many aspects of your health. Getting enough sleep is closely linked to improved mood, memory, concentration and productivity, as well as lower stress levels (and who doesn’t want that!).

It’s also important to get enough sleep so your body can properly recover after a workout!

With that in mind, I understand it can be hard to prioritize sleep — but aiming to get about eight hours a night is a simple self-care method that will give back to you everyday.

I personally also try to avoid screen time for 30 minutes prior to sleep, as this helps me fall asleep more easily and have a better night’s rest.

Take a moment to meditate

When we lead busy lives (and let’s be real, we all do!), meditating can be a PHENOMENAL tool to practice self-care and really CONNECT with yourself.

Some of the benefits of meditation include enhanced levels of self-awareness, focus and mood while simultaneously reducing stress.

Meditation is personal and there is not one right way to do it. It doesn’t need to take long either. If you have been wanting to try meditation, I would recommend simply sitting in silence for 3-5 minutes, and building up.

Consume inspiring content

Listening to an inspiring podcast, diving into a book or watching a fascinating show or documentary can really INVIGORATE your mind.

Do you commute to and from work on a daily basis? This is a great time to immerse yourself in a podcast or delve into a book or article, if you find yourself on a bus or train!

There’s an abundance of uplifting content out there, which means you’ll rarely go without! Plus, there are so many free options, which means your wallet won’t take a hit.

Just make sure it’s content that feeds your SOUL and leaves you feeling INSPIRED.

Pamper yourself

I understand it’s not always viable to find the time to head to a spa or salon. I want to smash the perception that pampering yourself has to be expensive or time-consuming. It doesn’t have to be.

A relaxing bath with some essential oils or Epsom salts, a hydrating facemask, or painting your nails are examples of self-care that are relatively inexpensive that can be done from home!

I personally treat my daily skincare routine as a form of self-care. Five minutes in the morning and in the evening to wash and moisturize my face mindfully helps me cultivate gratitude for my skin and my body.

Self-care for the long haul

I hope this article has helped you understand the importance of caring for yourself, and given you some ideas that you can incorporate into your own life. Self-care truly has the ability to transform your lifestyle.

Nourish your soul and treat your body and mind with all the love and appreciation in the world. YOU are WORTHY and you DESERVE this!

Seriously, I promise you, you WON’T regret it.

Kels xx
